An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and two other
police officers has been arrested by the Force Criminal Investigations
Department (FCID) of the Nigerian police for killing the son of the
former chairman, senate committee on defence, Senator Fidelis Okoro, in
Abuja last year.
The officers arrested for the alleged judicial killing are ASP Mohammed Yusuf, Corporal Agada Lawrence and Corporal Agada Kenneth.
Police told Vanguard that the senator’s son, John Chukwuemeka Okoro and a friend of his (Sunday Markus) were at the Durumi district in Abuja, on the 11th of August 2014, when a police patrol team received a distress call from Mabuchi district that that some suspected robbers snatched a Toyota car from the owner.
In the process of trailing the car, the policemen arrested the late senator’s son while his friend escaped. The leader of the police team then shot John firstly on the leg and theny in his chest evenas he was said not to be armed.
The deceased father thereafter petitioned the Inspector General of Police after a statement was extracted from John’s friend and the owner of the alleged stolen car by the FCID.
The police officers claim that there was a shootout and John died in the process was dismissed by the investigation of the FCID.
The officers are said to be in detention awaiting ‘Internal Disciplinary Action’ after which they will be charged to court.
Meanwhile, the Nasarawa state police command on Friday, September 18, claimed it has rescued Prof. Emmanuel Ogundele of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, who was abducted by unknown gunmen in the school a day before.
