Buhari To Hold Emergency ECOWAS Summit On Burkina Faso

Following the coup d’état in Burkina Faso, Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari will host an
Extraordinary Summit of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government tomorrow, Tuesday, September 22, in Abuja.
 

According to the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, the main item on the agenda of the summit is the current political situation in Burkina Faso.
Buhari on had earlier condemned the detention of the Interim President, Prime Minister and other ministers of the transitional government of Burkina Faso in a coup d’etat stressing that the “brazen contravention of the constitution and transitional charter of Burkina Faso by elements of the Presidential Guard under the leadership of General Gilbert Diendere”.

Gilbert Diendere, a former chief-of-staff to Mr. Compaore, was named the head of the new junta called the National Council for Democracy in Burkina Faso.
Muhammadu Buhari recently dismissed rumours saying that he didn’t know anything about embattled senate president, Bukola Saraki’s trial.
