Ekiti State Government Withdraws From WAEC Payment

A cross-section of students writing WAEC
The Ekiti state government will no longer be responsible for the payment of West Africa Examination Certificate (WAEC) and National Examinations Council (NECO) organized examinations for final year students in Senior Secondary Schools.

The deputy governor of the state, Dr. Kolapo Olusola revealed this while paying an unscheduled visit to Baptist Comprehensive High School, Ado Ekiti.

He declared that the state government can no longer continue to pay for WAEC, due to the poor financial status.
He also stated that it has been agreed by stakeholders that education should be a cost-sharing arrangement.
The number two man in the state charged parents to be ready to take responsibility for the payment of their child(ren)’s school fee and other academic commitment.
Olusola further advised parents to always ensure that their children attend classes as at when due and not to harbor them at home.
The deputy governor however ‎urged the students to face their studies squarely to be able to justify the huge amount spent on them by their parents, advising that, “students should cultivate the habit of buying past questions and getting themselves ready for external examinations.”

He expressed displeasure with the attitude of some teachers who are teaching without instructional materials.
