Video Fact: Bukola Saraki Appears At The Tribunal

The trial of Senate President Bukola Saraki commenced at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Abuja, in the morning of Tuesday, September 22, 2015.
He pleaded not guilty to the 13 count charge brought against him by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CBB).
Saraki entered the CCT at about 9.32am accompanied by a large group of senators who showed up to support him and prevent the possible ‘unlawful detention’.

The hearings are to resume on October 21-23, 2015. Meanwhile, a counsel to the federal government, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), has rubbished the rumours that the CCT is not a criminal court, but a sort of disciplinary committee for politicians. Jacobs said on Tuesday that the CCT has the power lead the war against corruption, as it is presently doing: “The Code of Conduct Tribunal is powerful tribunal to fight corruption. It is time to allow the tribunal to function and if they function well corruption will be reduced in our country.”
